How much does it cost to be a student?

As well as covering your everyday living costs while you are a student you will also be required to pay tuition fees to your university or college. Below are more details about these costs. Click here for details of the financial assistance available to students.

Tuition fees
How much you pay for the course, when you pay, and the arrangements for how you pay are important things to think about.

Askham Bryan College - £2,149 per annum
University of York - £3,145 per annum
York College – £1,530 per annum
York St John University - £3,145 per an
num

Other Costs
As well as covering the cost of your tuition fees you will also need to cover other costs associated with going to college or university. This will include paying for:

- Rent
- Household bills
- Food
- Travel
- Books
- Clothes
- Social activities

The majority of students take out a student loan to cover the above living expenses. The NUS website provides details of an average student’s income and expenditure. This should give you an idea of how much money you will need to survive as a student.
