When to look
Don't leave finding work until the last minute. Try to plan ahead and find work before you start the academic year, or at the latest in your first few weeks of term.
An early start is especially important if you're looking for summer work, as at the start of the summer break employers are often inundated with applications or requests for extra hours.
Where to look at institutions
All of the institutions in York have people who can help and advise you about finding work. Your college or university's student support department will be able to direct you to the appropriate person.
The University of York and York St John University provide job shops linking students with local employers offering part-time or vacation work.
These job shops also advertise graduate positions, work placements and volunteering opportunities. However, to access these you need to belong to that particular institution and register with the site.
